Mayor Gives Thumbs Up To New Greenwich Offices

Promising signs that the lean period for new buildings in Greenwich are
coming to an end continue to emerge, this time with an office building
next to the O2 that has been designed by Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands.
With seven floors of offices containing 18,659 square metres of space,
and a ground floor with 2,339 square metres of retail space, the scheme
located on site N201 is being developed by Ansco Piazza Buildings, a
company with links to the Anschutz Entertainment Group who own the
neighbouring Dome.
Rising a modest 36 metres in height, the building will extend outwards
the development that has already been built next to the Millennium Dome
with buildings such as Mitre Passage towards North Greenwich
underground station.
The building has been massed to respond tightly to the boundaries of the
site as well as relate to Peninsula Square onto which the retail outlets
face along with a curving building frontage and full height glazing. Above
will be five floors with stainless steel panels and recessed full height
windows topped by a double height glazed upper floor with strong vertical
lines.
As an alternative to the heavy use of glass is the south-western façade of
the building that is almost exclusively steel panels and recessed
windows with only a mini atrium running up it to break the façade into two
sections and help avoid a monolithic approach.
It's a design that has already proven popular with the planning authorities
they have been given the thumbs up by the Mayor of London's office.
